"just a museum"
Lang Pioneer Village
Serves as more than just a 19th century history museum, it also holds great value as a venue for photographers and events such as weddings. The historical architecture on this property provides gorgeous scenery for photography. When you enter the village, the first building on the left is the incredible Lang Grist Mill. Built in 1846, the mill was constructed using limestone from the nearby Indian River.
Mills are an extremely important part of our history as Canadian settlers. Not only through scientific advancement, but most villages during this time period were developed around mills as they provided the ability to grind raw grains into flour which allowed communities to feed their families fresh bread and wheat products. The mill was an incredibly valuable service to local farmers who previously would have travelled long distances to the nearest mill with large amounts of wheat (1).
We were lucky enough to aquire a photography permit for this location and recently held a sold out golden hour mini session event on June 28th 2026. The 200 year old stone foundation, stairs, and of course the Grist Mill were a beautiful backdrop for our sessions.

The Lawn
The carefully manicured lawn at the Lang Grist Mill served as a perfect meeting place for our sessions. The lawn was large enough to accommodate couples and families, allowing us to have some fun and run around. We even had a four legged gentleman show us his moves. The lawn is large enough to accommodate weddings up to 100 guests according to Lang Pioneer Village's website, and it was perfect for our mini sessions too (2). We were able to snap some really nice wide angles documenting the stone architecture glowing in the setting sun.

as a photographer...
add it to your bucket list
We would like to take a moment to thank the staff at Lang for their kindness and swift, professional communication regarding the permit required to use this property. The site was absolutely beautiful, and we had a great time (and so did our clients).
If you are a photographer interested in the use of the Lang Grist Mill as a venue, I highly recommend it!
It was quiet, and private, our clients felt comfortable, and had a ton of fun. This venue isn't like other typical mini session locations. The seasonal favourites like lavender fields, or sunflower experiences are so busy and at times can be crowded even when permits are acquired for after hour sessions.
The Lang Grist Mill was my favourite spot so far!
